Recent Work / Jessie Bennett Photography Branding + Website
It's been awhile since I've shared any recent work on the blog. I added this project to my portfolio awhile ago, but I thought it was time I wrote a little more in-depth about it, since it's one of my all time favorites.
Jessie is such a gem and was a dream to work with. She found me on Instagram and downloaded my free DIY Branding Checklist. After going through it she realized she was ready to up her game with professional branding. She had done her previous branding and website herself. She knew that wanted something classic and airy, with a modern twist. It was important that her branding appeal to her female audience, in a way that presents her photography as the high-end investment that it is, and the priceless heirloom that it will become.
The whole process felt completely seamless and dare I say, effortless. Everything came together so naturally! It helped that Jessie had a pretty good idea of the overall mood and style that she wanted from the beginning. She also did a fabulous job of providing feedback and was very specific about what she liked from each of the initial logo options I provided. We wanted her branding to be classic with a modern twist, as well as clean, and airy. Below is the mood board that we kicked the project off with and as you can see it definitely encapsulates that clean, airy vibe.
I think the final logo is a great embodiment of all this mood board. The hexagons are clean and modern, and the way the ombre fades makes it feel light and airy. The fonts have found a nice tension between classic and modern. The submarks are more are the modern side and compliment the logo well. I had a great time creating patterns to accompany the logo and submarks, and they truly brought this brand to life.
Once we completed the branding, Jessie decided she would try tackling the website herself. Although she gave it a great shot, she decided that she wasn't loving it and asked me to step in. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to do so because it ended up being one of my favorite websites that I've ever designed! Like everything else with this project it ended up coming together pretty easily. It's a parallax website, so I definitely recommend that you check it out for yourself. Stills just don't do it justice. You can take a gander over here.
Once we wrapped everything up, Jessie wrote a beautiful blog post about the process of rebranding and how she discovered that she is truly cut out to be a wedding photographer. She also included some incredibly nice things about working with me...
"Megan at Letterform is amazing to work with, and asked questions that really made me think…what are some adjectives that describe your business, how do you want your business to be perceived in the market, and my favorite…if your brand was a person, what would they do, what would they wear, what would they love. It didn’t take long for me to realize that where I was and where I wanted to be, were very different…and I was inspired to move forward, to grow through my insecurities, and the find true joy in my work.
So thank you Megan at Letterform…you have helped me more than I could ever quantify, not only did you create a kick-tush brand and gorgeous website; but you gave me back my confidence, you helped my find my voice, you showed me that I am good enough."
I don't know if I've ever felt so affirmed as a designer and business owner! My mission is to empower other small business owners to pursue their passions. To know that is exactly how Jessie felt after this process made my heart so full! I think it's pretty obvious from one glance at Jessie's wedding photography that she has definitely found her calling, which certainly made my job easier.
So Jessie, now it's my turn to thank you. First of all for trusting me with your branding and website, secondly for being so incredibly kind and such a joy to work with, and last but certainly not least, for taking absolutely gorgeous photos! Because girl, without those your branding could only do so much.
